Plastic Army Women Project: SORTED OUT!

October was an incredibly hectic and important month for the BMC Toys Plastic Army Women Project, but November is when everything finally comes together. Molding and sorting of the Pink, Tan and Copper sets are already in progress and final packaging is starting this week. Molding and sorting of the OD Green figures should begin this week as well. I don't have firm dates yet, but it looks like Kickstarter Rewards will start shipping around the middle of November and Pre-Orders around the end of November.

Here's some sorting bins of the tan and pink figures, their next stop is final production:

I know everyone is excited and anxious to receive their rewards and pre-orders. I promise everyone involved is working as fast as possible to get the project completed so your packages arrive in time for the holidays. You'll receive an email when your order is getting ready to ship in case you need to make any last minute address change.

Production of the Rosie the Riveter plastic figure sets is complete and arrived at the warehouse late last week. Pre-orders that include only the Rosie figure sets will be shipping this week, and everyone else's packs have been reserved for when the Plastic Army Women sets arrive. I made the difficult decision to release the Rosie sets to general public now since there's enough inventory available and it's getting so close to the holiday shopping season. Rosie has been a big hit with everyone who's seen her in person so far.  I'm seeing her all over the factory  on shelves and desks and told she's like their elf-on-the-shelf. 

The next update should be when we have some finished Plastic Army Women sets!

Plastic Army Women Project: FALL IN!

As we've gotten deeper into the Fall season the Plastic Army Women project has been checking off milestones faster than the leaves are dropping: 

• The plastic injection molds have arrived at the factory in Scranton.
• The new package insert cards have been delivered by the printer.
• The molds have been tested at the local factory as part of pre-production.
• Molding of the figures in the Kickstarter Exclusive Copper color is starting and will be followed by tan, pink, then the all-important OD Green.
• Final production of the plastic Rosie the Riveter packs and bonus Copper color Rosie figures is complete and should arrive at our fulfillment warehouse in Ohio later next week.
• Art for the Bucket set Labels is complete and ready for the printer:

This is all good news so my current estimate for the Kickstarter Rewards to start shipping is around the middle of November and pre-orders around the end of November. There's not too many unknowns left at this point, but there are potential delays due to freight moving slow and how long the final production steps take. Unforeseen delays due to COVID-19 are also an ever-present possibility.

Plastic Army Women Project: PRESS FORWARD

Here's a quick update on the Plastic Army Women project.  The package art for all the bagged sets is ready for the printer, and I decided the art for the Kickstarter Backer Rewards should be just a little different. There's a small Kickstarter logo to commemorate the event, and since each pack is going to include a Rosie the Riveter and a random Plastic Army Woman figure in the exclusive copper color, the packs will state '38 Pieces' instead of '36 Pieces' for the regular release:

The back of the 5 x 7 inch insert cards will includes some basic history about Women in the US Military:

Other progress includes finalized quantities for the factory production, ordered more of the fridge magnets, and progress on the label art for the bucket sets. The molds are on their way from the tool maker to the factory and it feels like it's taking forever for them to arrive.

The factory is scheduled to finish molding the Rosie figures this week, and the Rosie insert cards arrived on Friday. I expect final packaging of the Rosie sets to start pretty soon.

We're on track for the Kickstarter Backer rewards to start  shipping around November 9th. There's still potential delays as we  approach the finish line so keep your fingers crossed.

Plastic Army Women Project: ROSIE UPDATE

Here's a quick update on the Rosie the Riveter Figure production. The factory in Scranton is currently molding the Rosie figures in the Kickstarter backer exclusive copper color. I also approved the last couple of custom color samples needed for a some of the assorted color sets. Here's a sneak peak at the new insert card art:

The Plastic Army Women molds are on their way from the tool maker to the factory, and I'm working on the package art as well. The Backerkit order contents are now locked, but if you missed the deadline or need to change anything please send me a message at [email protected].

Plastic Army Women Project: BACKER SURVEY DEADLINE

Thank you to everyone who completed your Backerkit survey. There's a few folks we haven't heard from yet, and there's just a couple of days before the reward orders are locked down.  If you miss the deadline I'll do my best to fulfill your pledge rewards, but there may be some options that won't be available. The project still is making good progress. The final test shot samples are scheduled to arrive within the next couple of days so I can approve the plastic injection molds and arrange freight from the tool maker to the factory in Scranton. The Rosie the Riveter mold arrived late last week and is scheduled for testing at the factory tomorrow. If all goes well production of the Kickstarter exclusive stretch goal Copper color Rosie figures will start this week.
